Eastern International Art College is the secondary teaching unit of Zhengzhou University of light Industry for its cooperation with social forces in running schools. Founded in 2001, the college enrolls students from all over the country and now it has 10 majors with more than 4000 students, including Art and Design. The college has always been adhering to the principle of "collecting advantages of others to create our own style", and constantly explores the education mode to embody the modern education concept of art colleges. It conducts cooperation with domestic and foreign well-known colleges and universities, and organically combines the Russian deep foundation education of art, the new ideas, new techniques of modern art design in the world, and Chinese painting, art and design skills, aiming to build an art college that develops the culture of central China, and closely connects the regional economy of central China.

Apparel design major began to recruit students in 2005. For the past 12, the major has always been integrated the featured course system with the unique culture of the art college, and has become one of the pillar majors in the college. The major highly values the improvement of art accomplishment, pays attention to the improvement of aesthetic taste, at the same time, and trains the core competence of design and practice. The cultivation of students is combined with the apparel industry development. It not only trains excellent design talent who are suitable for apparel enterprises, but also stresses cultivating the students' personal brand labels, bringing out students' creativity and market awareness so that they can be the new talents with personal characteristic and unique development thoughts in apparel industry after they leave school. More than 400 graduates have become the new forces of apparel design with strong comprehensive ability and the dynamic development passion in related apparel industry .

The theme of this graduate show is "Skill. Memory". It is not only based on our advocate for the study and mining of the traditional culture in central China but also hope to seek a balance through repeated practices. That is, in the apparel industry when the rapid response is more and more stressed in the development stage, the pursuit of details and quality should not be changed. By feeding the multi-dimensional innovation of fashion through the beauty produced by the manual technology, it aims to explore the apparel design development under the guidance of new folk idea with characteristics.

We see “skills” as the rational end, implying to think about how to organically integrate craftsmanship and industrial science; for "Memory" as the perceptual end, implying to inspire the subjective consciousness and generate ideas. Therefore, the graduation design works also show the diverse features.

Among them, the part of the works positioning its research core as the study and application of traditional skills. The designers went to the site to know each production link: dried indigo dyeing, weaving, embroidery, sculpture, inserted skills and so on, from the initial transfer and depict to the technology details, they hope tp create highly practical works. Some works are based on feelings and associations of beauty in traditional implements: materials, texture, color, pattern, modeling, etc. All key elements are made different combination by the new material and then transform into unique fabric reconstruction technique. The breakthrough brings out the possibility of the garment modelling.

As a new force of fashion design education of Henan province, Henan Garment Industry Association, Henan Garment Design Association, Zhengzhou Garment Design Association etc. provide support for the development of the college. As a frontline apparel education college, it wants to be able to attempt and explore the apparel design education, and makes contribution to the economy of central China, especially the revitalization and development of apparel industry.
